Our 2.5” SATA 3 SSD (solid state Drive) use Good die 3D TLC NAND Flash Memory which provide high reliability and high performance, Armed with the SMI and HG Controller with or without Dram, It complies with the SATAIII standards and compatible with all kinds of computers, notebooks and laptops. To ensure the data integrity, many advanced technologies are used such as dynamic bad block management, dynamic and static wear-leveling, and error correction code (ECC).
FAQ FOR SSD
(1)What is Bad Block in the Nand flash? Does a new SSD has bad block?
Bad blocks are blocks in the Nand flash that have one or more invalid bits. They may be unusable or weak and prone to errors. They may be present even in new SSD devices and may develop during the lifetime of the SSD.
There are two types of bad blocks in SSD:
Initial bad blocks. SSD may ship out with a number of bad blocks. Before the SSD is shipped, the location of bad blocks is mapped, and a bad block management algorithm is usually implemented, where a bad block table is created by reading all the spare areas in the flash storage device. Invalid blocks are identified during testing and validation in the factory. The bad block table is saved in a good block, so it can be loaded by the device on reboot.
Accumulated or Later Bad Blocks. As the SSD goes through the rigors of its use, data in the good blocks may be lost or corrupted due to wear out during its lifetime, It will leading to read/write disturb errors, retention errors, and other issues. Consequently, damaged blocks cause stored data to be inaccessible and applications or operating systems may fail to open. As bad blocks increase, drive capacity decreases and performance is compromised, eventually resulting in device failure.
Bad block management, block replacement, and the error correction code (ECC) software are necessary to manage the error bits in NAND Flash devices.
(2) What is Spare block?
Our SSD also incorporate Spare Blocks in the NAND Flash devices. These storage areas are usually in the Over-Provisioned (OP) space of a drive, and are not user-accessible. If a NAND device has excessive errors in a data block, then that block will be marked as a Bad Block, retired and one of the spare blocks will be rotated into service. During this process, the data will be corrected if needed using ECC. The use of Spare Blocks extends the useful life and endurance of SSD drives.
(3) What is LDPC ECC(Error correction code) ?
The LDPC ECC engine executes parity generation and error detection & correction in Nand Flash memory, and enhances decoding throughput and data reliability. With LDPC of correction capability 1e-2 RBER, the hard and soft decoding mechanism provides powerful error and correction. Hence the SSD controller can enhance the endurance and retention of TLC NAND and extends the SSD lifespan.
(4) RAID Protection (Redundant array of independent disks)
In case of uncorrectable errors occurring within a superblock (a pre-defined area which consists of a particular set of blocks across physical NAND units), the RAID engine recovers the uncorrectable error clunk by using a certain storage space of parity bits.
Incorporated with LDPC, the RAID ensures a comprehensive lever of data integrity while providing a broad range of RAID overhead protection.
(5) SMART
The MCU supports SMART commands that allow users to read spare and bad block information. The users can thus evaluate drive health at run time and receive an early warning before the drive life ends.
(6) SLC Caching
The intelligent SLC caching algorithm enables the NAND flash memory to operate in SLC- mode and hence enhances write performance of SSD.
(7) Data Security
Security commands can be used to lock and unlock the drive by password or through a hardware switch. For those users who require the highest level of security. the MCU provides an enhanced data security option. By utilizing the latest data management techniques such as AES, the full data encryption on SSD can eventually ensure the security of confidential data and information.
